Let's face it that like confidence, self-control in coaching high school soccer is an option that players can choose. In soccer coaching, the connection between emotions and thoughts establishes the self-control strategies. All of us know our mental state influences our passions that accordingly enhance our performance.
With a view to help the players in learning the skill and discipline of self-control, there is a 12 step strategy which I shall discuss with you. Nevertheless, it’s imperative that players agree to these steps after that are sure that it holds a lot of importance for them.
Besides this, they must also assume total responsibility for their actions. The strategy has been given below in 12 steps for your reference.
1. Awareness: Help the players figure out their weak points during the course of coaching youth soccer. Allow them to investigate when, where and how loss of control happened on field in their past.
2. Understanding: Let the players find out and admit the reason that influenced their thoughts and resulted in them losing their emotional poise.
3. Differences: Let them recall various situations when they managed to maintain control and when he did lose control. Let them judge the distinction between their behavior, attitudes, and emotions then.
4. Problem: When it comes to coaching high school soccer, try to point out the real problem. For example: Is it the guilt of letting the whole team down because of their performance?
5. Belief: The players should manage to raise their expectations from them including self-control as one of the behaviors. Support them so they can change.
6. Reinforcement: A change in behavior is promoted by reinforcement. Therefore, you must not forget your duty as a coach to recognize and honor the improvements of players so that they stick to these.
7. Goals: To guide the players through skill upgradation process, set a series of small goals for them. Help the players understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions.
8. Techniques: Put together different behavioral action items to uphold the confidence level. For example: Course of action must be clear in the minds of players when a certain situation arises.
9. Plan: In football coaching, help the players in learning an organized and efficient way to pursue their goals.
10. Progress: Tell them to be patient. Help the players realize the value of ups and downs in the path to improvement.
11. Setbacks: Teach the players on how to live with the setbacks that are unavoidable. Thus, utilize these to learn new things for improvement.
12. Remembrance: Finally another important point is making the players understand the importance of the reason for they are trying to change. They should always bear in mind why they're doing this. What would be there in future for them, if they don’t try?
We all agree that a perfect performance state for a soccer player is that of a relaxed promptness. In other words, the stress-free efficient performance.
This should not be taken lightly. You must include relaxation techniques in coaching high school soccer and train the players on how to control the thought process so that they can keep themselves stress-free.
