For years and years, self defense training was a very slow simple affair constrained to a dojo. Normally, a constricted respone would be performed because the students would just be punching each other lazily. However, lately a new form of self defense training has been emerging. By getting rid of the old boring traditions, this new form of self defense brings in a kind of training that prepares students for the street.
The basics are simple. These new students go all out instead of just sticking with the basic martial arts horse stance style of training. They realized that real life self defense situations aren't really like one student calming attacking another. In the real world, attacks are violent, random, and difficult to defend against. In order to account for this, the students wear normal street clothes. In order to truly master self defense they scream, yell, and violently attack the other students.
This kind of self-defense training, when done properly, can greatly increase the practically of your practice. This is because this type of training teaches you to react quickly, think on your feet, and most importantly, prepares your mind for the crazy rush of a real fight. When compared to the old style, this style is a lot better. As you see yourself getting better at practicing self defense, your skill will increase rapidly.
So when looking for self defense training, make sure you look for a school that offers self defense training in this new style. Now there's just the hardcore realistic practice that can be immediately applied to the street without all the uniforms and fancy techniques. This new type of self defense training is really the only style worth training because it's that good. It simply blows everything else out of the water.
